NUM TIME COMMENT
1 12:30 THE ARGONAUT PLATE 1000m
LA FORZA (8) jumped $1.40 on debut after a nice trial win but ended up 1L off the winner at the finish. The winner doesn't show up here and he gets the winkers on this time. Drawn for a better run in transit down the straight this time and with improvement expected, he should be getting the job done. SANTORINI (5) just couldn't hold off the first two across the line on debut, finishing 2L off the winner and behind La Forza. He was in the market there and with a middle alley, he can get across to the outside rail and lead. Will take catching again. CALIFORNIA MOXIE (2) was slow out but closed off strongly from the back. Now gets the winkers on and he should be better for that experience. Can play a role. MEANINGFUL DRAGON (4) looks to have trialled the best of the debutants and is not to be discounted.
2 01:00 SPECIAL CARGO HANDICAP 2000m
COLOURFUL BARON (1) was only caught late in the race at Happy Valley, leading throughout before ending up 0.5L off the winner. Zac Purton remains in the irons and while he's never raced at this track and trip, he did jump favourite over 1800m here two back. Racing well and can get the job done this time. JOYFUL CHAMPION (6) ran over the top and pulled away in the straight for an emphatic 2.3L victory. That was on the All Weather over 1800m, but it's hard to ignore the way he did it. Looks to get every chance from the inside draw and can repeat the dose. GOLDEN FAIRY (8) finished behind Colouful Baron last time out but that form holds him in good stead. Can be prominent in the run again and is sure to put his best foot forward. ARTHUR'S KINGDOM (7) hasn't won for a long time but is not to be discounted on recent efforts.
3 01:30 MANICOU HANDICAP 1200m
SPANGLE FORTUNE (11) just missed over this course and distance last time out, beaten in a photo finish. He draws well again today and drops plenty of weight as he rises in grade. Maps for a nice run once more and if he can repeat what he did here 32 days ago, he'll take plenty of beating. HINOKAMI KAGURA (6) was also edged out in a photo finish last time he came to the races, beaten narrowly when charging home after the breakaway leader. Suspect he'll be midfield in the run again, but he only rises 0.5kg despite a strong effort last start. Can go one better today without surprising. MUST GO (1) won impressively two back before going under as favourite last start, finishing behind Hinokami Kagura. That rating stacks up well in this field though and he's sure to be in the finish again. EVERYONE'S VICTORY (4) wasn't far away last time out in a big form reversal and has claims if he can repeat that run.
4 02:00 INSULAR HANDICAP 1800m
ILLUMINOUS (2) was 2.5L off the winner last time out after jumping the $2.90 favourite over 2000m. Back to this trip looks ideal and while he's likely to get back in the run, his figures in efforts prior to last start have him right in the frame of this. On the way up and will take beating. STAR MAC (3) was only fair last week on a wet track and back to the mile. He was super in the Classic Cup over this trip three back and now Bowman rides from a favourable alley. Best form is good enough he just needs to recapture it. SUNSTRIDER (6) looks ready for this trip now as he rises to 1800m for the first time. Zac Purton remains in the saddle and he drops 1.5kg off his latest effort where he jumped favourite. Can put his best foot forward. HOLY LAKE (4) was too good over the mile last start and Ho has won 3/4 when partnering. Live chance.
5 02:30 ISLE OF MAN HANDICAP 1000m
It's hard not to be impressed by the trials of BOTTOMUPTOGETHER (5) who makes his debut today. Could've gone to the Griffin race but in stead lands here which is a big push for his chances. Looks to have his share of ability and can make a winning start to his career. RUBY SAILING (12) is still chasing his maiden victory but is never far away. He only just missed here 21 days ago and and is knocking on the door of his maiden win. Can be right in the finish again. TAIHANG SCENERY (6) is another debutant, this time for Bowman and Danny Shum. He too has trialled well and it's interesting to not that Purton rode him in trials, but will ride a different horse in this race. Wide draw suits down the straight though and it wouldn't surprise to see him win. CHEVAL VALIANT (1) can take up the running and prove hard to catch back in grade.
6 03:00 NORMAN CONQUEROR HANDICAP 1600m
LAUGH TALE (1) is only 6 starts into his career and was just 1L off the winner at this track and trip last time out when running on strongly from the rear. He continues to improve with racing in Hong Kong and Bowman sticking with the gelding is a positive sign. Drawn wide again, but looks the one to beat on recent form. FLYING MOJITO (4) jumped favourite last start over this course and distance and only finished 1L off the winner when running on from midfield. Racing well without winning of late but looks to get every chance under Atzeni who strikes at 25% when riding for Hall. He's the main danger. JOY OF SPRING (9) rattled home to just miss last time out, continuing his good run of form this time in work. While he is likely to get a long way back, his recent efforts rate highly and if things fall his way, he can shed the maiden tag. STRONGEST BOY (5) disappointed last time out and is much better than that. Can bounce back.
7 03:35 MONAVEEN HANDICAP 1400m
STORMING DRAGON (8) flashed home on debut over 1200m to miss out by 0.8L, with the form out of that race being outstanding. He's won a trial since then and the step out to 1400m looks ideal. Big tick with Purton sticking and with improvement expected, he's the one to beat. SMILING COLLECTOR (10) went under narrowly at this course and distance 28 days ago and looks to have his good on the till. The wide draw is a niggle, but he has raced well when settling forward or back. Stacks up nicely from last start and won't be far away again. DARING PURSUIT (1) looks ready to peak now third-up despite a 3.5L defeat last time out. Vincent Ho sticking with the galloper is a positive sign and while he's a long time between drinks, a win doesn't seem far away. MIDORI BURLY (2) drops back in grade today and was competitive in C3 earlier this campaign. Can play a major role.
8 04:05 THE QUEEN MOTHER MEMORIAL CUP (HANDICAP) 2400m
The feature of the day. RUSSIAN EMPEROR (1) is the cream of this crop and can jump to a new level getting up to this track and trip. Any sting out of the ground will suit him perfectly and although he carries the big weight, there's a reason why he does. Expecting a big turn around in form. UNBELIEVABLE (11) sat up on the speed and stayed on well last time out after running on strongly in the Derby two back. He's already placed at this trip in the UK behind a good horse and the drop in weight is ideal. Sure to be fighting out the finish. KA YING GENERATION (9) hasn't been to the races since setting up the strong tempo in the Derby. The was a surprise performance, but he's in the finish if he can do it again. FIVE G PATCH (4) is on the quick back up and has placed at this track and trip previously. Won't be far away.
9 04:35 GAME SPIRIT HANDICAP 1200m
VICTORY MOMENTS (2) stuck on well enough over this course and distance last time out after not having the best of luck on straightening. Drawn much better this time with Purton remaining in the saddle and this looks an easier race on paper. Can bounce back in a big way. SKY FOREVER (10) was well beaten in that same event and hasn't been at his best the past couple. With a bigger field and more pace engaged this time it looks to suit him a lot better. Likely to get back in the run but can be launching late in the race. CAPITAL DELIGHT (3) was a long way off them at Happy Valley when finishing midfield, but he boasts a strong record on this course and distance. Can sit just off them from the draw and if the pace is on, he can be flashing home at the finish. MAGNIAC (1) gets the blinkers on first time and is likely to be prominent in the run. Worth including.
10 05:10 BRANDY SNAP HANDICAP 1200m
KA YING RISING (8) is a very progressive gelding who continues to work through the grades impressively. He was a comfortable 1.5L winner last time out and drops 7kg as he rises in grade today. Drawn much better for Purton this time and if he can run up to that level again, he should be winning. GORGEOUS WIN (11) was beaten in this grade last time out, but only by 1.8L when jumping the favourite. Now drops 1kg today and while he may need some luck from the draw, his previous efforts suggest he's the main danger. PACKING TREADMILL (3) stuck on well in the Sprint Cup after a disappointing effort two back. Barrier 1 should see him get every possible chance though and his best is good enough to be in the finish. REWARD SMILE (9) is better than he showed first-up and getting back onto the turf suits. Can bounce back.
11 05:45 INCH ARRAN HANDICAP 1400m
SUPERB KID (3) sat worse than midfield and put his rivals to the sword over this course and distance 35 days ago, winning by 2L. He does rise in weight for that effort, but Purton remains in the saddle. May need some luck from the draw, but he's a progressive type who can win again. SUPER GOLDI (9) settled near last and got over the top late in the race on April 7, winning by a neck. He's likely to get back from the draw again, but he drops 5.5kg for the rise in grade today. Sure to be finishing off strongly once again. GOLDEN ARTIE (4) only just missed when on the 7-day back up last time out and rates highly off that effort. The outside draw is a big niggle, but if he can run up to his recent efforts he won't be far away. MAGNIFICENT NINE (8) is ticking along nicely and can make his presence felt.
