In the absence of noted leaders, Viktor and Dark Simba may be the ones to set a moderate tempo. MORTAL HALO (9) nice colt heading in the right direction. Gave his all second-up when a narrow second over this track and trip behind Ivan's Hero. Raced at Group level last time in work and strips fitter on the limit. Tags the speed and sure to be thereabouts. DARK SIMBA (2) snagged back from the wide gate before surging late with a respectable sixth first-up over 1400m at Caulfield. Gets the right set-up for this with his good second-up record. Top-three contender. AUTOMNE TREE (7) quickly running out of chances and the blinkers go on for this. Warmed up late when fourth over 1550m at Canterbury. Stays in the mix. SWIFT LEGEND (5) going nicely through his grades but doesn't get the same map favours here. Place prospects best. SUGGESTED PLAY: Mortal Halo gets his chance with the 53kg.
