NUM TIME COMMENT
1 12:17 MANCO MAIDEN 2YO 1150m
Not a great deal of speed on paper so it may be left to one of the first starters to take it up. MISS PERNA (3) finished off her run strongly for third when making her debut at Pukekohe just over 4 weeks ago. She will naturally improve second up, and in a small field, she is the one to beat. LARA ANTIPOVA (5) is on debut, and she hails from the leading Walker/Bergerson stable. She is well educated with 2 trials under her belt, and Craig Grylls in the saddle is a strong lead. Watch closely. STATE THE OBVIOUS (6) makes her debut with 1 public trial to her credit. Warren Kennedy is the best around, and he picks up the ride. Use the market as the best guide. LUMINANTWARRIOR (2) has been runner-up in both of his trials to date, and he will be ready to rumble for his debut.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Miss Perna can improve and take this out, but it is nice field.
2 12:58 MIKE FRASER-JONES @ BAYLEYS 2200m
Moderate tempo with Honor Mission leading the way and a few others keeping in touch.  RELIABLE SQUEEZE (4) was a warm favourite when finishing second on this track nearly a month ago in an average lineup. This field is similar, and she is set to go one better, so follow your money. HONOR MISSION (6) improved quickly second up to finish runner-up by a short-head here 11 days ago. She has more upside than most in this field, and she will be very hard to hold out. CHICFLIX (5) has had many chances to break through, but just doesn't have the killer blow. She is honest and fit, so stick with her. MAGEE (1) was passively ridden in the run home here 11 days ago and ran on to finish fourth. Expect a more positive ride this time, and he can figure in the top 3 this time. SARRACINA (7) likes this track, and her recent form has been on wet tracks. She meets a modest field, and is worth including in all combinations.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Magee one more chance for a top 3 finish.
3 01:32 SHACKELL ELECTRICAL MAIDEN 3YO 1400m
Not a great deal of pace on paper so it may be left to one of the first starters to take it up.  STELLA MA BELLA (7) hails from the leading Walker/Bergerson stable and was a game third on debut over 1230m at Arawa Park 3 weeks ago. The step up to 1400m will suit her, and Craig Grylls sticks with her. On top for us. RED PEARL (9) makes her debut off the back of an impressive trial win at Te Awamutu by 6 lengths. A wide gate is against her, but she looks to be above average, and she can make an immediate impact. Check the market. STARLIT EXPRESS (10) battled into sixth on debut at Arawa Park 3 weeks ago, and will continue to improve with racing. The extra journey will help, and she has top 3 claims this time. SPIRITUS (3) was put aside after making his debut as a juvenile at Pukekohe. He resumes with a couple of trials under his belt, and having Opie Bosson in the saddle is a strong lead. Watch closely. DA DA WING (1) peaked on his run late when finishing fourth on debut in heavy ground at Pukekohe nearly 6 weeks ago. Warren Kennedy rides from the pole position. Each way value.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Red Pearl each way on debut, but the field is very even.
4 02:08 MVS EQUINE MAIDEN 3YO 1400m
A few on-pacers lining up so it should be keenly contested. RUFUS (1) has needed time to mature, and resumes from a spell that would have done him the world of good. He has had a couple of tune-up trials, but the key here is having Opie Bosson in the saddle, and when he links up with the Forsman stable, it usually produces positive results. The blinkers go on, and he is the one to beat. OBERON (2) peaked on his run late when finishing midfield on debut at Arawa Park 3 weeks ago. He was under 2 lengths from the winner, and he won't have to improve by much to be a top 3 threat here. CELEBRATE NOW (8) won the latest of her 3 trials very easily at Avondale last month, and she has the breeding to make her mark. The market will be the best guide. Watch closely. PERLINO (9) won the latest of her 6 trials on the same day as the fourth pick, albeit in a slower time, but she is well educated, and she will have Craig Grylls in the irons. She is another who will carry some solid market support. Include. LUCKYTOBEHERE (6) has each-way claims.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Rufus can win this.
5 02:43 BAYLEYS COUNTRY MAIDEN 1150m
Good early pressure anticipated with a large number of unraced runners. CEASE AND DESIST (4) was well supported in the market on debut in his only start as a juvenile, and failed to flatter. He makes his return after a decent spell as a gelding for the first time, and a recent Avondale trial win says he is ready to rumble. SIR YOU CAN DANCE (3) has been given plenty of time to mature and has won his only public trial. He can sit just off the pace from a reasonable draw and can figure in the finish. Watch for any positive market moves. DROPS OF GOD (12) has been well-educated at the trials for leading trainers, and she will be suited by a handy gate. Each way claims. REBEL CREEK (13) has been close up in 2 trials, and Craig Grylls keeps the faith for her debut. Again check the market moves, but this filly has a motor. Each way.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Rebel Creek at some each-way value.
6 03:18 PIAKO RURAL SERVICES MAIDEN 1150m
Anticipating good pressure with many of these at the races for the first time. MILLER'S POINT (6) made some good progress as a 3-year-old, and looked in good nick when winning a recent trial comfortably by a length. A good draw will help her, and she can take this out. FURY OF FLIGHT (4) was a high-priced yearling purchase who had a few tricks up his sleeve on race day. He resumes as a gelding, and now that his mind is fully focused on racing, he can produce something better. Don't risk him. CIAO BELLISSIMA (10) won the latest of 2 trials this season, and with Warren Kennedy in the saddle, she will be ready to rumble. Watch the market moves. RAKONUI (13) is making her debut with the advantage of the pole position, and as a recent trial winner, she will be ready to run a big race. COSMOPOLITAN (11) has been freshened up, and she is not the worst at odds.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Miller's Point each way value.
7 03:57 APPARELMASTER WAIKATO MAIDEN 1400m
Plenty of runners but a dawdling affair is on the cards. BERTIE WOOSTER (15) had no luck last season and resumed from a spell over this trip here nearly 4 weeks ago and finished seventh, when doing his best work late. With a clear passage, he is good enough to take this out. SURPRISE INSIDE (9) made progress last prep, and ran her best race fresh up at Pukekohe in February when finishing runner-up. She looked sharp when placing in a recent Avondale trial, and with some luck from a wide draw, she can run into a top 4 spot. MY FAIR LILY (16) is a staying type of mare who will improve over more ground. She has shown improvement in each of her lead-up trials, and with Matt Cartwright in the saddle, she could be one to spice up some top 4 combos. UNWRITTEN (8) strips fitter second up, and is not out of this.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Bertie Wooster can win this.
8 04:25 NEVILLE JACQUES @ BAYLEYS 1400m
Genuine pace with Shez Shamus taking up the running ahead of Sally and Proudtobehere.  MILLE GRAZIE (4) has been a touch plain in all 3 starts this prep, but also has not had much luck with her recent barrier draws. That changes here, and she also drops down a grade. A form reversal is on the cards. TIMBUCTOO (3) had to make a long run from well back when resuming at Arawa Park 3 weeks ago, and peaked on his run late. If he can settle a couple of pairs closer this time, then he is good enough to figure in the top 3. WAY OUT WEST (6) has been rather disappointing this prep, and was tried in front at New Plymouth last time out to no avail. He gets the blinkers on, drops in class, and gets his best chance to bounce back into some decent form. Stick with him. SHEZ SHAMUS (5) led up and was only claimed late when finishing second by a short-head at New Plymouth 16 days ago. His stable is running hot, and in this lineup, he can go one better. VESPHIRE (8) is running out of chances, but gets Warren Kennedy in the irons for the first time, and she is capable of winning this.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Mille Grazie to win, but any horse can take this out.
9 04:59 MARK WYBORN 1300m
Strong tempo likely with several going forward, headed by Eye Candy and Greenwich. LOUGH ESKE (5) is a former Sydney-trained gelding who hit the line strongly for third fresh up at Tauranga just over 3 weeks ago. He strips fitter, and with an extra 100m to travel, he can take this out. EYE CANDY (6) ended her 3-year-old campaign in some hot fields and resumes from a spell with a couple of tune-up trials under her belt. This trip will be short of her best, but watch for her to be warming up late down the long final straight here. Include in all combinations. DUDADAY (4) showed promise last season and has been taken along quietly as a lightly tried 5-year-old gelding. He won a recent trial very easily, and from a good draw, he can't be ruled out of winning this. ZIGGY STARDUST (7) has finished fourth in all 3 starts and will benefit from a 3kg this time. Stick with her.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Eye Candy each way.
