PLACEMAKERS ROTORUA 1800m
Genuine pace with Blueridge taking up the running ahead of Gioia Magica and Khando. GIPPSY GOD (1) ran on strongly last time out on this track over 1800m, but had to settle for second, just a short-head off winning. He will be close to peak fitness third up, and if the gaps come at the right time, he can go one better. ZACABASSO (10) battled into fourth over 1600m at Matamata four weeks ago on a track that was just too heavy and holding. She steps up in distance today, which will suit her, and she is good enough to figure in the top 3. BLUERIDGE (5) has finished fifth in each of his starts to date at Te Aroha. He raced greenly in front last start, and he should be a lot more settled third up. Don't risk him. SNOWFLAKE (11) ran on late over 1400m fresh. Stick with her. SUGGESTED PLAY: Zacabasso each-way. |

WATER SERVICES NZ-TAUPO 1300m
There should be a bit of pressure with Curzon Park and Born This Swey pressing forward in advance of Hostility and Capote. HOSTILITY (7) is a progressive colt who resumed from a spell as favourite over 1200m in the LR Colin Meads Trophy at Ellerslie nearly 5 weeks ago. He needed that run badly, and should now be spot on with his fitness. Dropping back into maiden company makes him the one to beat. Follow your money. CAPOTE (4) just battled on debut, finishing fourth as favourite over 990m at New Plymouth nearly 4 weeks ago. Those track conditions that day were very testing, and he did stick to his task gamely. The step up to 1200m will suit him, and from the pole position, he can finish a lot closer. NIGHTOWL (1) has been freshened up and is worth another chance. CRUZON PARK (8) will be at his peak fitness third up and he has not had all the luck in his races recently. Each way value here. SUGGESTED PLAY: Hostility should make amends and win this. |

MASTER BUILDERS-TAUPO 1300m
Good early pressure anticipated with a large contingent of unraced runners. ASHOKA (8) was sent out as an odds-on favourite when resuming nearly 3 weeks ago over 1200m at Trentham, finishing third. He peaked on his run that day when looking likely, and he will be improved by the hit-out. He has a handy gate, and can take this out. Follow your money. HIGH ROLLER (1) resumed from a spell three weeks ago and did not do anything, despite some solid market support, over 1200m at Ellerslie. He is much better than that, and with an upgrade in his draw, he can hit back immediately. Stick with him. AKSIL (9) is a gelding by Ace High out of Savasong, making his debut today after winning a trial very comfortably at Cambridge late last month. He is bred to want more ground, but should still be sharp enough to be an each-way threat in this. Watch the market moves. MAN O' SLEW (4) was not far away on debut over 1200m at Ruakaka just over 5 weeks ago. A wide draw is no help, but he can improve sharply. VENDABELLE (6) finished third fresh up and can contend again. Include. SUGGESTED PLAY: Ashoka should set the record straight here. |

MCLEOD HIABS 1100m
Plenty of first starters engaged which makes it tricky to map, but we can assume a solid tempo. ZIVOU (1) tried hard on debut when finishing second as an odds-on favourite over 970m at Cambridge on the poly track a month ago. The extra 130m is what he wants, and he can set the record straight this time. Follow your money. KING'S ENGLISH (2) was well-supported on debut, finishing third and not far off the winner over 1200m at this track. He is bred to be good and will be eyeing up some richer targets in the spring. Hard to beat in this. MAZINO (9) showed plenty of promise as a juvenile and ended his last campaign with an eighth over 1400m in stakes class at Te Rapa. He cruised home to score in a recent trial, and even though there are some smart types in this, he will still be among the hardest to hold out. GENERAL MENARI (4) is by Menari, making his debut for the O'Sullivan/Scott stable. He won the latest of his 3 public trials and will be ready to rumble. SUGGESTED PLAY: Zivou is the one to beat, but the smart King's English won't be far away. |

THE BELLE FAMILY 1100m
The presence of the first starters could see Russian Blues and Sneaky Cyclone struggle to get their own way in front. RUSSIAN BLUES (6) showed good speed last start, and fought on well for second by a short-head over 970m at Cambridge on the poly track 16 days ago. She will be suited to 1100m, and can go one better. SNEAKY CYCLONE (3) had a couple of starts as a juvenile before being put aside to mature. His recent trial win suggests he has gone the right way, and he won't be in this grade for much longer. HASSTOROCK (9) had one run as a juvenile, finishing fifth over 1100m at Te Rapa in April. She will be stronger now and can make full use of her good draw early on. Include in all combinations. CONFECTIONIST (8) is a 3-year-old filly from Stephen Marsh's yard. She is ready to race after a recent trial win late last month at Cambridge. Watch the market moves for her. WOMAN IN CHARGE (7) caught the eye with a big finish for second on debut here just over 3 weeks ago. She will naturally improve from that run, and her first win is not far away. SUGGESTED PLAY: Russian Blues can take this out. |

CHRIS JOLLY OUTDOORS 1000m
Expecting Honor The Name to find the lead but there will be plenty of pressure over the sharp trip. PRESENCE OF MIND (8) was runner-up on debut in her only start as a juvenile over 1200m at Wanganui, and hasn't raced since. She has some breeding to live up to and will be a lot stronger this season. She has had a couple of quiet trials and will definitely be hard to beat. HONOR THE NAME (4) debuted last start, finishing fourth as favourite at Matamata over 1050m 4 weeks ago. She had won 2 trials before that, and will be hoping for a firmer surface this time. Follow your money. ATKINS (3) returns after a four-and-a-half-month spell, which would have done her the world of good. She was a beaten favourite in all 3 starts during her initial campaign, and has again been to the fore at the trials. Hard to beat, despite the wide draw. WAY OUT (2) has raced her way into form and was a solid third at Cambridge on the poly track over 970m last time out. She is fit and ready to figure in the finish again. HOT CARD (10) cruised home to win a recent Te Rapa trial. Her stable is firing. Include. SUGGESTED PLAY: Presence Of Mind can win, but this field contains some handy types. |

PLACEMAKERS TAUPO 1300m
Strong tempo primarily from Leroy Brown, Sagunto and Giacomo over Churchillian and Outovstock. CAPTURED BY LOVE (8) resumed last time with a fifth-place finish as an odds-on favourite over 1400m at Ellerslie nearly 3 weeks ago. She will find this easier, and she did win a couple of trials prior to her latest effort. She cops a nasty gate, but is still the one to beat. TALISKER (7) returns after a six-and-a-half-month spell. He is a lightly tried progressive gelding who has not missed a cheque in 4 starts fresh up, including a win, and even from a wide draw, he can make his presence felt. Use the market as your best guide. WHAT YOU WISH FOR (5) was close up in some strong fields earlier in the year. He might already find this too short for him, be he has won twice over this trip in the past. Don't risk him. CHURCHILLIAN (10) has had no luck in both of his starts this prep, and on reasonable ground, a form reversal is on the cards. KEEGAN (16) is a lightly tried 7-year-old gelding resuming from a spell. He looked sharp in a recent trial and can't be underestimated. SUGGESTED PLAY: Churchillian at some each-way value. |

GENERATION HOMES 1100m
Mr Fortrus, Knowledge Is Power and Miriam all possess good speed. COOL 'N' FAST (1) was a solid third fresh up and was just over a length from the winner as favourite in a stronger field over 1100m at Ellerslie nearly 5 weeks ago. He will be having his second run as a gelding and can take this out. Follow your money. MAROKOPA FALLS (13) made good progress as a juvenile and will be even stronger this season. She has had 3 trials and will give the Walker/Bergerson stable a strong hand in this field. Watch the markets closely. SABIK (4) is a 5-year-old gelding who is having his sixth career start. Don't risk him fresh up. SABIK (4) cops a tough gate but has shown plenty of ability in a short career. He has had his issues, but if right, he can figure in the top 3. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER (3) is capable when caught in the right mood. Include in all combinations. SUGGESTED PLAY: Cool 'N' Fast is an each-way chance in a very competitive contest. |

POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB CUP 2600m
Genuine tempo with the speedy Pacheco crossing from the outside gate. I'M A DIRTY RASCAL (1) will be peaking third up from a spell, and will relish getting out to 2600m. He wouldn't mind some cut in the ground, and the key to a form reversal will be having Bruno Queiroz in the saddle. Watch closely. GOLDEN (9) has been thereabouts in all 3 starts this prep on the poly track at Cambridge. She was a solid fourth over 2000m there two-and-a-half weeks ago, and will be seasoned enough to cope with 2600m for the first time. Each way. KENNY (8) is a very progressive staying type who closed well to grab third over 2200m at Te Rapa nearly 4 weeks ago over 2200m. He is rock-hard fit and will be very hard to hold out here, especially on a wet track. DANCIN IN THE DARK (3) is having his best campaign yet, winning 3 of his last 5 starts, including his last run at Ruakaka just over 5 weeks ago. Stick with him on an each-way basis. HOOTIE JOHNSON (15) is a dour type who will be suited by 2600m. He will look likely at some stage, and can plug into a top 3 finish. SUGGESTED PLAY: I'm A Dirty Rascal at each-way value. |

INGLIS READY2RACE SALE - 16OCT 2000m
Trouvaille or Tukituki to take the lead and attempt to control the tempo. HEZA SHARP ONE (1) has not been too far away in all 3 starts this prep, and will be dropping in grade here. He caught the eye with a big finish at Te Rapa nearly 2 weeks ago, and will start from a superior draw this time. Craig Grylls will give him every chance early on, and he should go close to taking this out. JUST ONE (6) has not had much luck recently and is right down in class for this assignment. A form reversal is on the cards. CARIGNAN (10) has found it hard to win another race, and his recent form has been fair at Te Aroha on some heavy tracks. He has been placed in his only start on this track, and can figure in the top 4 with the right run in what is an even contest. TROUVAILLE (7) has been racing at Cambridge on the poly track there, and is seasoned enough to cope with a middle distance for the first time. Stick with him on an each-way basis. DELOREAN (12) did not handle leading last start, and is probably better ridden with cover. She is worth another chance here. SUGGESTED PLAY: Just One at some each-way value. |
