Easily the main highlight of the afternoon with this year's renewal of the Group 1 Epsom Handicap. Five last start winners take their place and 9/13 come into this off career peak performances last start. Speed anticipated from Fabrizio, Mackintosh, Sons Of John and possibly Dibayani. LE ROMAIN has been very good in all three runs this time in and now appears set to peak racing fourth up. Took a good step forward to win the Randwick Guineas (fourth up) following a similar campaign last prep and from the good draw he shapes as one of the hardest to beat with Bowman back in the saddle. Fabrizio should lead with Dibayani also capable of working across. HAURAKI at each way odds appeals a fortnight after a brave second to champion mare Winx in the Colgate Optic White Stakes. Form out of that race could get a push through the likes of It's Somewhat and Spiritjim in the Craven Plate. He is yet to run out of the money third up from three prior outings. Topweight PALENTINO heads up the highway after a career best win in the Makybe Diva Stakes. The entire should be peaking fourth up. Darren Weir applies the Blinkers for the first time which also must be respected. LE ROMAIN has finished second in each of his three starts this campaign, the latest when second to Chetwood in the Group 3 Cameron Handicap. A winner of the Randwick Guineas at this course and distance last campaign, he returns to the scene of the crime in good form. The Hard Spun gelding ran second to Hauraki in the Tramway Handicap the start prior. He now meets Hauraki 1.5kg better at the weights. MACKINTOSH was a first up winner of the Theo Marks Stakes. He will have taken benefit from the run and gets in with nothing on his back. MCCREERY drops back to a mile after winning the Kingston Town Stakes in dominant fashion. He should be rock hard fit and profiles as a strong lightweight chance. SUGGESTED PLAY: Happy to play both Le Romain and Happy Clapper at the E/W odds.
